Andrea Hartranft Elected to Serve as IALD President-Elect

Andrea Hartranft, Principal of Hartranft Lighting Design, has been elected to serve as President-Elect of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) for the term beginning January 1, 2023. The IALD news release is posted below and also in the IALD Press Room.


Founded in 1969 and based in Chicago, IL, USA, the IALD is an internationally recognized organization dedicated to supporting a network of 1,500 independent lighting design professionals who satisfy its rigorous qualification process. The IALD strives to set the global standard for lighting design excellence by promoting the advancement and recognition of professional lighting designers.


IALD Announces the Results of Its 2023 Election

Results have been announced by the IALD Nominations + Elections Committee for the 2023 Elections.


​The global lighting design professional community is invited to join the IALD in congratulating five newly elected and re-elected members of the IALD Board of Directors and two re-elected members of the IALD Membership Committee, with terms set to begin 1 January 2023.


​The eleven-member Board of Directors is the governing body of the International Association of Lighting Designers. The Board meets quarterly to provide strategic and financial oversight and direction to the CEO who manages the organization on behalf of the Board.

As principal of Hartranft Lighting Design, Andrea offers expertise gained from more than 1,500 commercial, institutional and industrial projects, including high-end public spaces, energy-efficient workplaces, and cost-driven renovations. Her projects have received international lighting design awards from the IALD and the IES, as well as AIA awards at the regional and national level. She most recently served on the IALD Board of Directors and is a past President of the IALD Education Trust. She has also served as past Chair of the IALD Awards Committee and the IES Progress Report Committee.

A huge contributor to lighting education, Andrea developed and taught Lighting Fundamentals and Advanced Lighting Design courses at the Corcoran College of Art and Design from 2006 until 2013. She was a workshop head for Lights in Alingsås 2015 and Luci In Riviera 2017. She has also presented on lighting for Enlighten Americas/Europe and Asia. She is Lighting Certified (LC) by the National Council of Qualifications for Lighting Practitioners (NCQLP).
