As a seasoned lighting design professional who has navigated three major technological lighting changes over 40 years, Debra’s passion for design remains energized by the dynamic character of light and it’s potential for enlivening the constructed environment. Her award-winning designs encompass a diverse portfolio of projects, from the concept and fulfillment of Master plans for corporate campuses, to vast commercial interior projects, to a UNESCO World Heritage site in Saudi Arabia.

Before founding Gilmore Lighting Design in 1997, based in Bethesda, Maryland, Debra’s design career path included mentorship from numerous luminaries in New York City and Washington, DC.

Debra’s public speaking engagements have ranged from university architecture departments as a guest critic and lecturer, to talking with business students in graduate continuing-ed programs, to lecturing at symposiums and national conferences about how light interacts with the exterior. She was selected as a workshop head for ‘Lights in Alingsas’ in Alingsas, Sweden. Her committee work for the IALD included a two-year term organizing the education component for Light Fair International.
